Chapter 4: The New Model's True Power

“A Red Dragon? Here? Of all places?!”

The adventurers froze, staring in shock at the massive beast before them. Compared to it, the wyverns were nothing more than mere hatchlings.

A Red Dragon — the most common among true dragons, with dark crimson scales. Sure, they might be considered the lowest tier of dragons, but they are still leagues beyond wyverns or any pseudo-dragons. One of these monsters could easily flatten a small town without even trying. Even in the count’s territory, whenever one appeared, the entire knight order was required to mobilize.

“Failnaught! Maximum power!”

At my command, the ballista on Failnaught roared to life.

—VWHEEEEN!!

The string strained to its very limit, groaning as if it might snap, before unleashing a massive arrow that cut through the air, aiming straight for the dragon's hide.

But—

“SHRAAAH!!”

“It... it didn’t pierce it!”

The arrow hit the dragon with a resounding clang before bouncing off harmlessly.

Are you kidding me? Not even a scratch?

As I stood there dumbfounded, Alicia raised her sword and shouted:

“Lord Viktor, flee immediately! We’ll hold it off!”

“But... that’s suicide!”

Sure, Alicia and her team were elite adventurers, but this was a dragon. Let’s be real—it spelled certain death for them all. Although it was their job to protect me, could I really allow them to throw their lives away like this?

While I was hesitating, Alicia called out again, this time more urgently:

“There’s no time! Your talent with golemcrafting could change the world! You must not die here!”

“But Alicia...!!”

She waved me off, a sharp gesture that clearly said, Don’t waste time.

In that moment, it hit me—she really believed in my work. She believed in my golems so much that she was willing to risk her life for it. Even with a dragon looming over us, that realization hit me hard.

No one had ever taken my golems seriously before.

Well then, I had no choice but to prove their worth.

“Just give me one minute! I’ll activate the new model!”

“...We can’t hold out for long!”

“That’s all I need!”

I dashed to where Machina, my maid golem, was resting in front of the cabin. I quickly lifted her up and shoved a magic stone into the socket in her chest.

—SPARK!

A soft light flickered in her eyes as she slowly came to life. Her entire body hummed with power, like the flutter of insect wings.

“Good morning, Master. I am Machina, at your service.”

“Sorry to start your day like this, but I need you to take down that thing!”

“The Red Dragon? Understood, Master.”

As you’d expect from a golem, Machina simply accepted my order. Meanwhile, Alicia’s team was still battling the dragon, struggling to hold their ground.

Machina shot forward, completely silent and faster than the wind.

“What the—? Is that a woman?!”

“You can’t be serious... that’s the new golem model you mentioned?!”

“No way... you’re joking!”

Alicia’s team was bewildered as Machina leaped into the fray, confusing them. But she paid them no mind and simply launched herself into the sky with a force that left a crater in the ground.

“GYSHAAAH!!”

She soared higher than the dragon and slammed her heel down onto its skull with a thunderous impact.

The dragon let out a pained shriek, turning its murderous gaze towards her.

“Watch out! It’s going to use its breath attack!”

Just as Alicia’s warning rang out, the dragon unleashed a wave of searing flames, hot enough to melt steel.

But Machina wasn’t going down that easily. Her body was made of top-grade mithril, reinforced with five layers of protective magic etched into every inch.

“GYAAAAAHHH!!”

She plowed through the flames like they were nothing and drove her fist into the dragon’s stomach.

The beast coughed up foam and started an involuntary, haggard dive. #Didn’t think it was appropriate to invoke pegasus since we don’t know, for example, if they’re common in this world, or maybe MC creates something like it later and nobody has ever seen anything like it etc.#

Then came the final blow.

“It’s over.”

Machina dropped from the sky like a meteor, her foot crashing into the dragon’s gut with a devastating impact.

“Target has been neutralized, Master.”

After confirming the dragon was well and truly defeated, Machina returned to my side. She glanced at her tattered uniform and bowed apologetically.

“I have damaged my uniform. I sincerely apologize, Master.”

“Forget about the uniform! You saved our lives!”

“Serving you is my greatest honor, Master.”

While Machina performed a flawless curtsy, Alicia and her team could only gape at us in stunned silence.

“...What in the world is that golem?”

“Like I said, she’s my newest model—maid golem!”

“That’s not— I mean— Why is she so strong?! Why’s a maid strong enough to take down a dragon?!”

“Well, she’s a maid. An ideal maid should easily be able to take care of a dragon or two.”

I mean, it’s only natural that maids need to be strong enough to protect their masters.

They need absolute power to be able to deal with anything.

If anything, Machina still has room for upgrades. Red Dragons might be low-tier among true dragons, but there are way scarier creatures lurking in the Great Forest.

“What kind of world are you living in to make you think maids are capable of something like that?”

“I know they’re not; that’s why I had to make her a golem!”

“That’s not the point! Why would you need a maid to be a one-woman army?! You’d have to be crazy to want that in a maid!!”

Alicia was practically shouting by now.

Honestly, some people just don’t understand the appeal.

“It’s completely normal! Super-powered maids are mankind’s ultimate dream!”

“NO, THEY’RE NOT!!”

Their collective retort echoed in the distance. #Since we just dealt with dragons and wyverns, I don’t think monsters would be scared off, so I removed that line. Furthermore, I don’t think we’ve had any indication they’re in a forest before this line?#

And so, our eventful evening came to a close.
